There are many reasons an employee may need an employment verification. The University of Michigan Payroll Office receives many of these requests each day and the average turn around for a request is 3 to 5 business days. We must receive a signed Employment Verification Release Form from the employee to comply with a request to release his or her private and personal information. The Employment Verification Release Form may be submitted in the following ways:
To obtain earnings records prior to the current year, please include $5.00 per year requested and submit with the Employment Verification Release Form. Requests will not be processed prior to payment being received. Requests will only be processed for years from 1979 to present. Payment goes for research time and will not be refunded if there are no records for the years requested.

Former employees may request earnings information for prior service at the University to apply towards service credit in their current retirement system. The Payroll Office charges $15.00 to process these requests.
